In July 2011 Southwark Public Health Nutrition Team led two Fast Food Swap Shop Workshops to35 children in years 5 and 6. The children were from Tower Bridge Primary School, City of London Academy and Snowfields School.
The first half of the sessions involved discussing the definition of and examples of junk food and talking about the negative aspects of these foods and why we still consume them. The children then played interactively with fat and sugar test tubes which illustrated the contents of certain foods and The Eat Well plate with balance of good health food cards.
The second half of the session the children created their own healthy fast food meal in groups and then fed these ideas back to the group.
