Walk your way to health

One of the easiest ways to get active is to start walking. walkers

Brisk walking on a regular basis is free, and you can do it almost anywhere - there are no hidden costs for equipment or special clothing.

Set yourself a target of 30 minutes, 5 times a week, (this is the recommendation from the Chief Medical Officer). If this seems too much, break the 30 minutes into three ten-minute sessions throughout the day. You’ll still get the health benefits. If you have any existing health problems, talk to your GP before you start.

Southwark Health Walks

Southwark Health Walks are a programme of walks, led by local trained volunteers.

There are a range of walks:

  • Walks that start and finish at a GP surgery,
  • Buggy walks from children’s centres and
  • Hearts in the Park is a walk for cardiac rehabilitation who meet in Dulwich Park.

Southwark walks make use of the green spaces and parks in our borough and beyond. Taking place weekly, setting off from different locations within Southwark evryone is welcome free of charge.
