Who we are

Southwark Health and Social Care is dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of the people who live in the London Borough of Southwark. We have over 2,000 staff who are responsible for a wide range of services that thousands of local people use on a daily basis.

Made up of Southwark Primary Care Trust and Southwark Council Social Care Services we seek to break down organisational boundaries and integrate our services where it makes sense and where it meets the needs of local people effectively and efficiently.

Our responsibilities
We are responsible for buying a wide range of services that local people need from:

  • hospitals including King’s, and Guy’s and St Thomas’
  • mental health services including South London and Maudsley
  • voluntary sector
  • community groups
  • private or independent sector.

We are responsible for making sure there are sufficient health and social care services including:

  • GPs
  • social workers
  • health visitors, district nurses, school nurses
  • dentists
  • opticians
  • community pharmacists.

We provide a wide range of community services ourselves such as:

  • services for children
  • services for adults and older people
  • sexual and reproductive health services
  • foot health services
  • services for people with disabilities
  • mental health services
  • services for carers
    and many more.
